Barack Obama is rounding up support for his decision to withdraw more than 30 thousand troops from Afghanistan, by the end of next year. France says it could also pull all of its forces out by the same period. But nearly 70 thousand American troops will remain, amid warnings from U.S. commanders that progress against the Taliban is "fragile and reversible".
